Matthew Groff
LCSW

I have been practicing psychotherapy for over 15 years, and enjoy creating a therapy environment that is supportive, open, and warm. I provide therapeutic treatment for individuals, couples and families on the problems they experience in their lives and relationships. I encourage a space where patients can lean into their experiences, becoming more comfortable with their thoughts and feelings throughout the process. I often incorporate humor into our sessions while helping my patients to develop a new relationship with themselves and their various emotional, psychological and behavioral experiences. Therapy is a collaborative process, and my patients are the experts of their own lives. I allow a safe and supportive environment for my patients to feel heard, understood and validated in their experiences. I take a holistic approach when working with my patients and consider the entirety of their interconnected experiences.
In addition to psychotherapy, I am the Associate Director of Behavioral Medicine Faculty for the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. During my career I have worked in large hospitals, community mental health agencies, and private practices with clients facing a range of mental health concerns.
My areas of interest and specialty include those with anxiety, OCD, depression, and those dealing with loss. I am also highly qualified in family systems, LGBTQ and gender affirming work. I have experience working with clients with a variety of backgrounds and I welcome diversity in my practice. I have earned certifications in Eco-Systemic Structural Family Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT and EFIT), CBT, and trained for 3 years at the Philadelphia Child and Family Guidance Training Center.
